Dmanisi

 In 2004, during the excavations in Dmanisi, a human scull was discovered there which proved to be the oldest human remains ever found on the territory of Europe. This fact shifted the period of the first human inhabitants on the continent to the “date” of 1.8 million years ago, rendering Dmanisi as the “birthplace of the first Europeans”.

Georgia is compared sometimes to the cradle of wine culture. The prevailing opinion attributes the origin of the word “wine” in many languages – to the Georgian “ghvino”. A number of the following excavation finds testify to the oldest customs of winemaking in Georgia there are following finds: vine, grape seeds, wine utensils (pitchers, bowls and winemaking tools as old as 7,000 years BC); the similar proofs in mythology – the goddess Aguna, patroness of wine (11-10 cc. BC), Badagon, (7-6 cc. BC), oldest astrological calendar and many other items. Praised by Strabo, Herodotus, Plutarch, and other public figures and famed personalities, Georgian wines that are attributed to the general brand of Saperavi, successfully treat various gastro-intestinal problems, sexual dysfunctions, effects of radiation exposure, and other diseases. Historical Heritage: There are about 150 museums and 12,000 monuments, 4 of which are included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Fund: The museum-city of Mtskheta is the ancient capital of Georgia; architectural complex of Gelati, which includes the remnants of the medieval Academy – central temple with unique mosaic frescoes and the royal burial-vaults; Bagrati temple; upper Svaneti with its historic towers.
